Where to Find Vegan Food at the Ferry Building Marketplace in San Francisco

Looking for vegan food options at the Ferry Building Marketplace in San Francisco? You’re in the right place.

While traveling, one of the things I have to do is explore a market so when I visited San Francisco last month, I visited the Ferry Building Marketplace. Located right in between Piers 1 and 2, the building originally opened in 1898 and serves as a gateway to the city. There are a ton of cute shops and a proper farmer’s market behind the building where the ferry terminal is. You’ll find fresh fruits and vegetables, sizzling hot sauces, jewelry, and so much more even in the middle of November. Grab a coffee and a vegan treat (the pumpkin loaf!) from Philz across the street before you wander around (or shelter from the rain like we did) and look out on San Francisco Bay.

The marketplace itself has a ton of vegan-friendly options so grab a bite to eat while you’re here and follow it up with something sweet.

Cholita Linda

We headed to this spot with Latin American-inspired cuisine for a quick bite to eat. The girl behind the counter was receptive to my questions and I ordered the tofu tacos (minus the baja crema) and the yuca frite, both excellent. They also have sandwiches, salads, and plates. Highly recommend that you stop by.

Mariposa Baking Company

On our way around the marketplace, we stopped here first. Everything was clearly labeled with allergen information and whether or not a specific item was vegan and/or gluten-free. I didn’t spy too many vegan-friendly options but the brown sugar cinnamon poptart pictured above was divine; it would be even tastier after being lightly toasted.

Gott’s Roadside and Soft Serve

After hearing so much about the non-dairy soft serve, I knew I had to visit. My go-to ice cream shop order was always a chocolate and vanilla soft serve twist in a cup with or without rainbow sprinkles. It’s one of the things I miss the most since moving away from a dairy-filled diet (and I can live without it!) but it was such a nice surprise to try Oatly soft serve, which was so close to the dairy version and even more delicious without any of the “guilt”. The market is worth visiting for the ice cream alone (and I believe the restaurant has other food options if you’re interested in dining there).

Other places with vegan options that could be worth checking out:

Reem’s: classic wrap

Senor Sisig: Filipino fusion food with a full vegan menu

Donut Farm

Bini’s Kitchen: vegetarian momos, kwati, other rotating options

Donut Farm was closed when I visited but they have a cute little stand by one of the entrances. If you’re looking for something to do or it’s a rainy day, be sure to visit and try the vegan food at the Ferry Building Marketplace.

Looking for more vegan options in San Francisco? I have a blog post.
